FAQs

What material do you use?

I use different kinds of clay. Most commonly, I use premo and fimo polymer clay with cosclay accents. For bigger things I use apoxie and dabble/try other air dry clays. Most items do have a wire and foil armature beneath. Hatchlings and minis usually do not. Many of my 'small dragos' also do not have too much foil or wire. I can't draw really, so no sketches for the most part. I'll use pictures of creations when trying to explain a point during a customization.

How do I care for my sculpture?

Very gently wipe with a cloth so  you don't snag edges. You can have a touch of water on the cloth. Keep out of direct sunlight. For polymer clay sculptures, please keep indoors as well. Some apoxie sculptures can be kept in a covered patio. If you are not sure, please ask!

What can I customize?

Besides the eye and sizing chart below, we can customize wings, back ridges, positioning, style (cute/realistic), and colors. Sizing and eyes also apply to other creations outside of dragons. I do my best work when given a little bit of freedom to choose some things in the design as well and I am very happy to work with you on creating something unique.

How long does a custom take?

It depends on the size and complexity. Most hatchlings and minies take a day or two to complete. Small dragons can take up to 2-3 days. Medium and large ones can take several weeks to a month or two.

I have a picture, can you make a sculpture from it?

It depends. If you are asking me to get some inspiration from something and make my own style, sure. If it is your own design, I can make it similar and do my best to get all the things you want in my style. If you are asking me to replicate the picture made my someone else, I will politely decline. I will not make replicas of other people's work unless they have given consent for us to use their model. I do use  pictures as references for my art for positioning, anatomy, etc.

Do you draw your art first?

Most of the time I do not. I can't draw though I may try sometimes. I will usually show pictures of my previous work to reference style or design choices.

Do you take payment plans? What happens if I don't pay by the dates?

I do. Paypal gives you an option to do so. If you want to use Zelle but create payment plans, you need to reach out to me so we can establish payments. I will not ship items until the items are paid for in full! Also with Zelle, please make sure you email clayleafcreations@gmail.com with your item and invoice number to make sure I can track it, the website is a little different when it comes to manual payments.

If items are not paid for by the established dates, you will be charged a handling and restocking fee. I will send you the items you paid for and put the ones you didn't pay for back on the shelves. If it was for one item, you will be refunded, minus the cancelation fee.

For customs I highly encourage you to reach out before you buy a listing so that you can decide once it is done whether you still want to purchase it. This makes it easier for us both if things change.
